With deck boards and railings offering 25–50 year warranties, we want to make sure the framing underneath lasts just as long. That’s why on every project, we apply butyl joist tape to all joists, beams, and stringers. This small extra step gives us peace of mind knowing we’ve built you the best, longest-lasting deck possible!

When TrexProtect Butyl Joist Tape is installed, it has a clean, matte black appearance that blends in nicely with treated lumber. Here’s what it typically looks like once applied:

• The tape covers the top surface of each joist, beam, and ledger board, creating a waterproof barrier.
• It wraps slightly over the edges of the lumber, sealing screw holes and preventing water from sitting on the wood.
• The butyl adhesive forms a tight bond to the wood, even around fasteners, without oozing or peeling up.
• After installation, the deck framing has a neat, uniform look, with black strips running along the tops of the joists before deck boards are laid.

We also design and build with other top decking brands like Azek, TimberTech, MoistureShield, Deckorators and Fiberon. However, we’re able to offer the longest warranties and the best expertise with Trex products, including an additional TrexPro® Residential Limited Labor Warranty.
