Whether you’re adding a new deck or renovating an existing build, please use this guide to get a better sense of the budget required for the project. We’ll show you how to calculate your square footage, break down average pricing, and explore the materials, features, and options available.
How to Calculate Square Footage of Your Existing or New Deck Build:
1. Measure Your Deck
Start by measuring your deck’s length and width. For example:
- Length: 16ft (from your house to the yard)
- Width: 32ft (across from left to right)
To calculate square footage, multiply the length by the width:
- 16ft x 32ft = 512 square feet
2. Include Stairs
If your deck has stairs, calculate the square footage of the stairs as well:
- If you have 5 steps, each 5 feet wide, multiply:
- 5ft x 5 = 25 square feet for the stairs
3. Total Square Footage:
- 512 + 25 = 537 square feet

- Removal of old deck boards, railings, and staircase
- Joist replacement – Based on our experience, installing composite or PVC decking over aged joists spaced 16 inches on center can result in a wavy or uneven surface. Our goal is to provide a smooth, level deck surface with a solid structure built to last.
- Reflash your home and butyl tape all joists, beams and stringers. These solutions protect your home and deck framing from costly water damage.
- Rebuilding into a modern, picture-framed composite or PVC deck including fascia to cover and protect the deck and staircase framing.
- New custom staircase, including stair framing with stringers spaced 12 inches on center.
- High-quality craftsmanship and finish tailored to your needs.

New Composite Deck Builds (From Scratch)
If you’re starting from scratch for a new deck design our custom-built PVC or composite decks generally start around:
- $80 per square foot
These prices include materials and labor and cover the complete deck-building process, including:
- Demolition of the existing build
- Design of the new structure
- New footings
- Structural framing
- Composite or PVC decking and fascia
- Railings
- Custom picture framed staircases
- New flashing and butyl joist tape

Lighting
Adding low-voltage lighting packages typically adds between $1,000 and $5,000 to the total project cost. Final pricing depends on the quantity and combination of post cap, post wedge, and/or stair riser lights required for the size and layout of your project.
Payment Schedule & Terms
To ensure a smooth build process and secure your place on our calendar, we utilize the following payment structure:
- Deposit (10%): Due at contract signing. This secures your slot on our build schedule. (Note: We typically maintain a 2+ month lead time).
- Materials Delivery (60%): Due upon delivery of materials to the job site.
- Final Completion (30%): The remaining balance is due once your project is complete and ready for use.
- Projects Lasting Over 5 Working Days (20% + 10%): For projects lasting longer than five working days, a progress payment is due after 5 working days, and the remaining 10% is due upon completion.
Note on Special Orders: Payments for non-stocked specialty items are required in full at the time of order.
Scheduling of new estimate appointments: We typically schedule all new estimate appointments for 10am or 1pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.
At this time, we do not offer any financing options.

Both options are built with the same care, attention to detail, and installation standards. The 25-year option uses quality materials at a lower price, while the 50-year option uses upgraded materials.
The labor is the same either way. You simply choose the material and warranty level that best fits your home and budget.
